Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer

Smithy creates Open Core cybersecurity tools. Our first solution is a security workflow engine that makes it easy to automatically run any security tool and integrate it into any organisation. We care about improving the day to day experience of our users, massively improving the efficiency of any security professional and reducing burnout and repetitive tasks.

Since we got funded a year ago we have been growing fast and are now looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to help us set new standards in how companies manage and interact with their security programmes.

Full-time · London, UK · £70,000 - £90,000

About the position

You will be responsible for designing and enabling data models and artificial intelligence in Smithy. You will be involved in the entire product development lifecycle including design, development, deployment and maintenance of new and existing features. You’ll work closely with the rest of the team to ensure system consistency and to create a great user experience. Ultimately, you’ll be the owner and driving force behind several new features.

About you

We are looking for someone with the ability to grow fast, a lifelong learner who wants to develop their skills. If you can learn fast, do not worry if you don’t fit all of the below.

1. You are an expert with at least one programming language preferably Python.
2. You have built and shipped products that integrate with models before.
3. You are deeply familiar with exploring unprocessed data: designing, implementing, and shipping ways to process and analyse this data.
4. You have a good understanding of data modelling, being able to design and evaluate models.
5. You are analytical, self motivated and good at time management.
6. You have great communication and problem-solving skills.
7. You are curious about new technologies and you find ways to implement them in your work.
8. You are proactive and can oversee and drive projects forward.
9. You are familiar with working with disparate data sources.

We work as a team

We work in-office 4 days a week. Try to eliminate silos and learn from each other as much as possible. We communicate a lot and try to maintain a balance between verbal communication, working puns into RFCs and deep work.

Hiring Process

First Step

40’ online chat with a team member so we can meet each other. This won’t be technical, but be prepared to talk about your experience and a project you are proud of.

Second Step

Take home test which should not take more than 3h.

Third Step

Onsite interview where you will be asked to present your findings on the take home test, followed by an in person data modelling interview and then a culture fit with the wider team.
