Backend Engineer

Smithy creates Open Core cybersecurity tools. Our first solution is a security workflow engine that makes it easy to automatically run any security tool and integrate it into any organisation. We care about improving the day to day experience of our users, massively improving the efficiency of any security professional and reducing burnout and repetitive tasks.

We are a team of curious engineers, passionate about learning and finding innovative ways to change the world with tech. Since we got funded a few months ago we have been growing fast and are now looking for a Backend Engineer to help us set new standards in how companies manage and interact with their security workflows.

About the position

You will be responsible for designing and building Smithy. You will be involved in the entire product development lifecycle including design, development, deployment and maintenance of new and existing features. You’ll work closely with the rest of the team to ensure system consistency and to create a great user experience. Ultimately, you’ll be the driving force behind several features.

About you

We are looking for someone with the ability to grow fast, a lifelong learner who wants to develop their skills. If you can learn fast, do not worry if you don’t fit all of the below.

  1. You are proficient with at least one strongly typed programming language, preferably Go.
  2. You have experience with distributed systems.
  3. You know how to design and implement RESTful API.
  4. You are familiar with relational databases.
  5. You work with Docker.
  6. You advocate for testing.
  7. You have great communication and problem-solving skills.
  8. You are curious about new technologies and you find ways to implement them in your work.
  9. You keep your knowledge up to date about technical innovations and industry news.
  10. You are proactive and can oversee and drive projects forward.
  11. [Optional] You have worked with Kubernetes before.
  12. [Optional] You understand Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines.
  13. [Optional] You are familiar with observability and monitoring tools and technologies.
  14. [Optional] You have worked with event driven technologies.
  15. [Optional] You are familiar with Protobuf and gRPC.

We work as a team

We work in-office 4 days a week. Try to eliminate silos and learn from each other as much as possible. We communicate a lot and try to maintain a balance between verbal communication, working puns into RFCs and deep work.

Hiring Process

We try to move fast and our hiring process respects your time. If we are a match you will be with us after a 2 step process. After the chat with the recruiter, the first step is a 30’ coffee or chat with at least one team member so we can meet each other. This is followed by a 2h technical interview where we do some system design and/or code (on your laptop) on some open source problem. The last stage of the process is a chat/coffee/dinner/outing with the team.
